The lamp once out

Cool stars enter

- Natsume Soseki

This is the initial sketch of the storyboard after learning about the outline for poster 3.

I have explored night sky, stars and a boy in previous posters so I decided to include those in Poster 3. Also, during Poster 2, I had this story in mind while I was creating the design, so I thought this story would be best to explore for my final poster.

Digital sketch of the storyboard:

After receiving feedback during virtual office session, I adjusted the frames slightly so the story can be delivered more easily to the viewer.

Fully Coloured storyboard:

Before I decided this to be the final poster, I asked feedback from family whether they can understand the story and whether my intention can be seen. They told me most of the frames have been successfully delivered except for the very last frame, the ending. I was trying to show that the boy was dreaming the journey all along but it did not show enough that he was "lying on the ground, dreaming". I experimented different types of how I can represent him dreaming.

Then I came up with the idea of using the previous frame - the last frame of the boy dreaming to show that he is dreaming.

The final design of Poster 3.

Although I could have submitted in black and white, I wanted to show that he was in the dream world by using colours on the parts that the light was being shone. I wanted to provide information that he is in a fantasy journey reaching for the star and enough contrast to show which is reality and which is the dream world.

I wish we had more time to spend on Poster 3 as we had less than a week to come up with the idea and create the poster. Also technically as there are 12 frames required for the storyboard, it felt like I was creating 12 different posters less than a week whereas for Poster 1 and 2 I had 2-3 weeks to prepare and create. Looking back at Poster 3, I am not entirely pleased with the final result.
