During my gap year, one thing that was in the list of things to do was making my own merch. I began watching musicals and variety of films so I thought it would be great to produce a sticker based on the musical and the films I have watched.

I first started by gathering reference of the musical in an album of my iPad. The musical I have chosen was Sweeney Todd which was performed at October 2019 to January 2020 in Seoul, South Korea. I gathered every picture I could find and took relevant screenshots of the video for me to draw and accurately represent the characters.

Then I began sketching each character as I had all the set-ups and the style in mind. In order to make sure they were all in the same size and proportionate to each other, I based each character on one chosen character, as shown in the video below.

However, after completing some of the sketches, I realised that the figure that I had based off for other characters was disproportionate. So from scratch, I began drawing again.

The characters have turned out much in proportion and better looking than before, so I decided to continue using the style on the right.

After all the characters were drawn, I tested two different styles of colouring.

I had a hard time choosing whether or not I should use the fully coloured line on the right, or a vector looking colouring on the left. Considering that I will be making a transparent sticker, I thought, fully colouring in the lines would turn out better than blocking in the colours. So I came to a conclusion of using the colouring style on the right.

I realised that the width of the line that I drew seemed a little too thick, so I decided to adjust all the lineart by re-drawing them.

There were not many problems with colouring as I based them off from reference photos and sometimes adjusted to suit each character.

The final layout of the sticker after adjusting colours and composition on Photoshop:

The filmography sticker was easier to make as all the idea and process were made in the previous sticker. Therefore I did not have to go through the trouble looking for the right width of the line and the proportions.

I used Adobe Illustrator to insert cutting lines of the sticker so when the stickers are actually printed they can be easily peeled off.

The final printed result of the stickers:
